"I Need More Clarity First" Has Cost People Years

"I Need More Clarity First" Has Cost People Years

Ron Pratt

After my last post, several people reached out about how their inner critic shows up when they're thinking about a change.

However, that voice is sneaky and good at disguising itself. It doesn't usually say "don't do it."

Instead, it says things like:

"Let's just get a little more clarity first."

"Maybe next quarter would be a better time."

"You should be grateful for what you already have."

Sound familiar?

Our inner critic often hides from us. It comes wrapped in logic, patience, gratitude. All the things that should guide good decisions.

But behind that reasonableness is often fear dressed up as wisdom.

It keeps smart, capable people researching for months instead of taking decisive action. It convinces them that waiting is strategic, when really it's self-doubt and avoidance wearing a better suit.

The turning point isn't when you silence the voice.

It's when you start asking: "Is this truly my inner wisdom… or just me avoiding what I know I should do, in order to stay comfortable?"

If you've been "strategically waiting" on a change, what would it look like to take one small step this week, before you feel perfectly ready?
