The Voice Trying to Keep You Safe Is Keeping You Stuck

The Voice Trying to Keep You Safe Is Keeping You Stuck

Ron Pratt

You've been thinking about a career change for weeks. Maybe months!

Finally, you take action and start to research it. Excitement begins to build. You may have even gotten to the planning stage. Then that old familiar voice kicks in:

"You'll fail. You'll regret it. You're not cut out for this."

That voice? It's not trying to ruin your life. It's trying to keep you safe.

When it says "You're not ready", it's remembering a time when you actually weren't.

When it whispers "You'll regret this", it's trying to protect you from humiliation, disappointment, looking foolish.

When it insists "This is irresponsible", it's confusing staying safe with staying stuck.

This voice isn't the enemy. It's an outdated alarm system, still running on old code from when playing small kept you safe.

The problem? That voice doesn't know you've changed. That the real risk has shifted. That staying put might now be the more dangerous choice.

You don't need to focus on silencing the voice. Instead, you need to update what it. Shift it from "alarm system for old threats" to "advisor for new opportunities"

What's one thing your inner critic keeps saying that might be protecting an old version of you?
